.::New referred Expert::.

At the end of the call with Brigitte Cook she referred me to an expert that has done some research on the subject. (I was asked to keep the name concealed for own personal purposes while talking about the expert and any other related connections.)

In a presentation I was able to attend, gave focus to the two factors of the graffiti epidemic in Oakland. The two main key terms "Running" and "Graffiti Tourism" were part of the main discussion.

"Comprehensive deterrence plan — the city is a "Running" city
"Running" is a term that refers to how long a graffiti is still staying up ex. 1-4 years is  "running"

"Graffiti Tourism" — Gang Graffiti (there are over 80 graffiti crews)

.::Call with Panel Expert::.

Today I had a phone conversation with one of my panel of experts, Brigitte Cook, she gave great insight in what is happening in the Oakland community regarding illegal graffiti...

"It is happening organically in West Oakland"
"Targeted to small businesses"
  — Police Reports are constantly made

Extortion to the African American community — they do not want murals.

LA / Brooklyn appearance brought to Oakland - How to avoid it?

**Is it something people want to see?**

Disrespect by taggers
— Taggers that are not from Oakland disrespecting the city.

Another form of Gentrification.

It is Costly + Manpower

25th and 26th MLK
$1,000 (cost to) small churches
this is detracting from doing business

The case of Mother Right - (Homeless feeding Organization)
Vandalized the building costing thousand of dollars to fix, taking away from the money they could be using for their cause.

[At the end of call she referred me to another potential expert.]

.::Andy from DragonSchool99::.

Today I talked to Anderson Gin (Andy), he was very supportive and helpful. He talked about his program and the goal running this program. DragonSchool99 "The goal of this project is to paint 99 golden dragons on the buildings of Oakland's Chinatown. Part beautification, part community unification, the project was conceptualized by Doctor Dragon, a street artist with ties to Chinatown. The project brings together students and other volunteers to paint the dragons. Student participation is a key component of the project, helping to build pride for the community in which they live. With the active participation of members of the community, we are creating a sustainable movement to maintain and improve Oakland Chinatown's identity." DragonSchool99

.::Phone Interview with Fuming Guerilla Productions::.

Today I had a phone interview with Fuming Guerilla Productions, this interview gave me a new perspective and directed me to a different path to my potential approached solution. I was also advised to reword my problem statement as it may sound negative and would be problematic. "Eradicating" graffiti art will be difficult to transmit to the public. It was also advised to refrain from calling it Street-Art, and to just call it Art. Fuming Guerrilla Productions is one of the programs that facilitates indoor and outdoor art, they work with many artists in the city and work with international known artists.  Fuming Guerilla Productions
