.::Problem and Purpose Statement Edit::.
An update version of the Problem Purpose Statements
As advised by Prof. Gomes, I reworked my statements to be more specific. The problem statement needed a focus area in Oakland. I chose Downtown Oakland since there are a lot more businesses that have this problem. The purpose statement I can't be too specific because I'm yet to figure out the approach to a solution but this statement states my direction.

.::The Design Process::.
Today we went over our proposed topics, we presented the topic we are interested in covering. Professor Gomes went over the Design Process of this project (graph left). He explained that the first part of the project is what we are doing these few first weeks, introducing topic, identifying problem and purpose, making assumptions, defining keywords, and arriving a hypothesis. This phase can be part of the hear stage of the human values. The second part is research, validation, and processing, this phase is empathy. Methods that are performed in this phase should also be implemented in the third part of the design process. Here we create input to our topic. The third part is ideation and creation. Here development of the topic is made. Information of who, what, how, is presented; brainstorming, organizing and generating ideas also takes a big part of this phase. The last part is implementation, this is the delivery phase. Assets, findings, analysis and solutions are presented.
The Human Centered Design Process ( +ACUMEN and IDEO.ORG)
The graph above is another version of the Design Process, shown in three phases, this graph is provided by +ACUMEN and IDEO.ORG.
Both of these graphs help organize and plan for the research design project.

..::Visit with Darlene Tong at the Library::..
Today we visited Darlene Tong, librarian at J. Paul Leonard Library, she gave us a presentation about the research databases and the research dashboard. With this visit we became familiar with the research sources available to us for the research process of our projects. She explained the difference between primary and secondary sources. Examples for primary sources are, focus groups, surveys, observational studies, and interviews. For secondary sources some examples are, journals, books, popular magazines, and academic and scholarly articles. It was advised to include scholarly/academic/peer reviewed articles, and recent articles.
We discussed preliminary topics for our research projects. Trying to decide on the main topic to cover by weighing which topic we feel more passionate.
